Ohio/Michigan Summer Birding

Summer Birds in Ohio and Michigan

Birding was not the focus of this trip but we had some success none the less.

Most of the notable birds were seen near Barbeau, MI.  The Black-backed Woodpecker was a target of ours that we located while picking blueberries, deep in the Hiawatha National Forest.  Sheree’ had the eagle eyes, spotting the bird after Scott and I walked about 100 yards further ahead. The Sharp-tailed Grouse was located alongside the road early one morning, there were actually two, one adult, one immature. We located a LeConte Sparrow at a birding hotspot called “Munuscong WMA (Munuscong Potholes)”, but I was not able to get a photo.  The Evening Grosbeak can be reliably found at the Hartwick State Park bird feeders.

Click here to read about all the places we visited on our trip through Ohio, up to Upper Michigan, and down into South Carolina for the total eclipse.
