England 2016 – Yorkshire Dales

Countryside

York

York was a destination for us, but we spent a lot of time elsewhere and had to make it a quick tour.  Most notable, and familiar, the streets used in Harry Potter movies.

“York is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England. The municipality is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.”

Bolton Castle

Bolton Castle is a 14th-century castle located in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, England. The nearby village Castle Bolton takes its name from the castle. The castle is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.[1][2] The castle was damaged in the English Civil War, but much of it remains. It has never been sold and is still in the ownership of the descendants of the Scrope family.
